Boutique holiday cottage with vintage charm in the heart of Deal
Our lovely cottage has two double bedrooms (both have zip-link beds: twin single beds which combine to make a really comfortable super-kingsize bed), a large family bathroom; living room with tv, video and dvd player, wifi and phone; and a well-equipped kitchen. For larger families, we can also provide a junior mattress with bedding, to accommodate one child (probably only up to the age of 6 or 7 - the mattress is 140cm long).
Most of the furniture is vintage and has been sourced from Deal's award-winning High Street. Duvets and pillows are from the White Company and the bedlinen is 200 thread-count Egyptian cotton; we provide soft, cotton towels. There are two adult bikes, kept in the small, walled garden - which is a suntrap in the summer and offers somewhere to dry and store beach towels and swimming kit. We welcome one small, well-behaved dog.
On Kent's east coast, Deal owes its maritime heritage to the sheltered anchorage (The Downs) provided to shipping by the notorious Goodwin sands. As a former garrison and mining town too, Deal has a rich and varied history, which is evident in the beautifully preserved buildings of its seafront and conservation area.
Turnstone is an 18th Century cottage tucked away at the end of an enchanting little alley, just off Deal's atmospheric Middle Street. This area was the geographical heart of Deal's smuggling, and other, even less salubrious, activities. Now, it is a peaceful and genteel reminder of the town's history - and just a stone's throw from both the long shingle beach and the award-winning High Street.
